Silestone Home Additions & ADU: The Orange County Owner’s Guide
If you’re planning a home addition or ADU in Orange County and want Silestone countertops as part of the build, the installed price typically lands between $45,000 and $130,000 for the full project, with Silestone surfacing accounting for roughly $2,000 to $6,500 of that depending on square footage and edge profile. We install Silestone as part of kitchen, bath, and ADU builds across Orange County, and in most cases we can template and fabricate within two to three weeks once the cabinets are set. Most homeowners come to us when a previous contractor left them with a Silestone countertop that was cut wrong, cracked at a seam, or installed over a substrate that’s already failing, and they want the whole job done correctly this time.
Which Silestone Models This Applies To

Silestone is Cosentino’s quartz line, and it matters which generation you have. Legacy Silestone colors like Blanco Zeus, Tigris Sand, and Stellar Snow were produced on the original resin formula, while the current Silestone Loft and Sunlit Days series use the newer HybriQ+ binder with less crystalline silica. The difference matters for fabrication: older slabs cut a bit softer, newer ones are denser and require a sharper blade and slower feed rate. If you’re adding on to an existing kitchen, matching a discontinued color like Unsui or Kensho is not realistic from stock, so you’ll either replace the full run or choose a contrasting color for the addition’s island. We’re an independent contractor, not affiliated with Silestone or Cosentino, but we buy from the same regional distributors every Orange County fabricator uses, and we inspect every slab at the yard before it’s cut.
Here’s what to check if you’re trying to identify your existing Silestone:
- Underside markings: Silestone stamps the color name and production date on the slab’s underside, usually in black ink. If the counter is already installed, you won’t see it without removal, but your original invoice or the fabricator’s records will have it.
- Thickness: Most Orange County installations use 2cm or 3cm slabs. 2cm typically goes over a plywood subtop. 3cm sits directly on the cabinets. This affects how aggressive the demo gets and whether your existing cabinetry needs reinforcement.
- Edge profile: Eased, bullnose, and mitered edge details come at different price points, and the edge profile on a new Silestone run needs to match what’s already in the room if you’re blending surfaces.

Signs Your Silestone Home Additions & ADU Is Failing
In Orange County, we see the same failure patterns repeat across Anaheim, Fullerton, Santa Ana, and the older neighborhoods of Orange and Tustin. Here’s what shows up, and what it usually means:
- Crack running outward from the sink cutout. The front rail between the sink and the counter’s edge was cut too narrow, or the cabinet below settled and left the stone unsupported. Quartz doesn’t flex; it cracks.
- Seam opening up or shifting. The two slabs were shimmed instead of set on a flat substrate, or the installer used a cheap polyester adhesive instead of a proper color-matched epoxy. In Orange County’s dry-then-rainy cycle, wood cabinets move enough to separate a weak seam within a year or two.
- Hazing or dull spots that won’t polish back. Someone used an abrasive cleaner, or the original fabricator over-honed the surface trying to remove a scratch. Silestone doesn’t reseal like granite, but it can lose its factory finish and look permanently cloudy.
- Chipped edges around the dishwasher opening. The dishwasher was installed too tight against the stone, and every cycle transfers vibration until the edge spalls. The stone stops chipping once the opening is properly relieved or the dishwasher is reset with clearance.
- Counter suddenly sits proud of the cabinet by an eighth inch on one side. This is almost always the subtop delaminating or the cabinet frame racking out of square. The Silestone is fine; the structure under it is not.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For a home addition or ADU in Orange County, the Silestone portion of the job, meaning templating, fabrication, and installation, runs about $2,000 to $6,500 depending on slab color, square footage, edge detail, and whether you’re doing one kitchen or surfacing both a kitchen and a bathroom. The $45,000 to $130,000 figure covers the complete project: framing, drywall, electrical, plumbing, cabinetry, flooring, and the Silestone installation. What drives the countertop cost up: mitered waterfall edges, full-height backsplashes, larger islands without seams, and premium colors that sit higher on the distributor’s price sheet. What drives it down: a straightforward run with an eased edge in a standard color, fabricated on the first template. Every Silestone job we do includes a written price before we start, a written 365-Day Done Right Promise, and the fabricator’s warranty on the slab itself.
DIY or Call Us?
You can’t cut or install Silestone without a CNC table, so there’s no realistic version of this as a weekend project. What you can do is check the existing conditions: run a level across the cabinets, look for soft spots in the subtop, measure the overhang, and take photos of any cracks from three angles so you have a record. Where DIY goes wrong is trying to patch a cracked quartz counter with an off-the-shelf repair kit. It won’t hold, and most kits yellow within months, which makes the eventual fix more involved and more expensive. If your Silestone surface is failing inside an addition or ADU, the most useful next step is a site visit with honest measurements and a written price before anything gets ordered. Give you the number first, then pick up the tool. Call (424) 541-1701 and we’ll schedule that visit with Trevor Nash or a member of our Orange County crew.
FAQs

Silestone quartz typically holds up for 20 to 30 years in Orange County conditions, which is longer than most cabinets under it last, provided the substrate was flat, the seams were color-matched, and nobody scrubbed it with abrasive pads. The weak point in an ADU is rarely the stone itself; it’s usually the cabinetry settling or a seam separating over movement at a transition between old and new framing.
Small edge chips can often be filled and color-matched by a stone restoration tech, but a structural crack through the body of the slab, especially one radiating from the sink cutout, cannot be restored to original strength. The repair may look passable for a few months, then recrack when the seasons shift. Call (424) 541-1701 and we’ll tell you honestly whether repair is worth pursuing or replacement is the smarter spend.
Once the cabinets are installed and ready for template, most Silestone jobs in Orange County go from laser template to installed counters in two to three weeks. The slab has to be reserved at the distributor, cut on the fabricator’s schedule, and then installed in one visit, usually in a half-day. Demolition of the old surface, if needed, happens the same morning.
We order per job from Orange County distributors, which keeps every slab matched to the specific layout and avoids keeping stock that gathers dust or gets committed to a discontinued color. This also means we pull the exact slab you approved, inspect it before fabrication, and aren’t selling you a remnant you never picked. We also work with Cambria and Caesarstone quartz, along with KraftMaid cabinetry and Kohler fixtures, when you want the whole addition sourced through one written proposal.
