American Standard Roofing: The Orange County Owner’s Guide
If you have an American Standard roof that’s leaking, lifting, or showing cracked tiles, we stock compatible parts and install them across Orange County. Typical roof repair runs $400 – $1,800, while full American Standard-compatible roof replacement in Orange County runs $8,000 – $20,000 depending on square footage, material grade, and roof pitch. Most Orange County homeowners discover a failed part the same way: a water stain on the ceiling after a Santa Ana wind event, or granules collecting in the gutter after a heavy winter rain.
We’re an independent Orange County installer, not affiliated with American Standard. That matters because we have no incentive to sell you one brand’s part over another when a better fit exists. We match the part to your roof, your budget, and the way Orange County weather actually behaves: dry air that bakes underlayment, coastal marine layer that feeds mildew, and wind gusts that catch loose tile edges in places like Yorba Linda and Lake Forest.
Which American Standard Models This Applies To

American Standard’s roofing line covers three main material categories: asphalt architectural shingles, concrete tile profiles, and clay tile. Within those categories, the part number matters more than the product name. The quickest way to identify what you have is to check the original installation paperwork for a part number starting with AS-R (shingles) or AS-T (tile). No paperwork? We can identify the profile from a photo of the tile edge or shingle underside, but roof pitch and existing underlayment will determine what can be matched versus what needs a different profile.
A compatibility gotcha we see often in Orange County: American Standard’s concrete tile profile AS-T14 was discontinued around 2016, and the current AS-T16 has a slightly different ridge overlap, so mixing them on a visible slope leaves a lip that catches wind. We stock aftermarket equivalents from Eagle and Boral that match the AS-T14 profile within a millimeter, which means you don’t have to re-tile the whole slope to fix a 40-square-foot section. For shingles, OEM doesn’t matter much because architectural shingles from a quality aftermarket brand like Owens Corning or CertainTeed install and seal identically, but color matching requires bringing an actual shingle sample, not a photo.

Signs Your American Standard Roofing Is Failing
- Granules in the gutter or downspout. Asphalt shingles shed granules toward the end of their life. In Orange County, UV exposure on south-facing slopes in Irvine and Mission Viejo accelerates this by a few years, so don’t assume granule loss means a defective product.
- Curling or lifting shingle edges. This almost always starts on the unshaded side of the roof, and it’s usually adhesive strip failure. The original sealant that held the shingle tab flat loses grip after enough thermal cycling, and partial lifts spread quickly once wind gets underneath.
- Damp spots on ceilings after the first rain of the season. Orange County’s long dry stretches let small underlayment tears sit unnoticed for months, then the first real rain exposes them. The water typically travels along a rafter for several feet before dropping, so the leak location on your ceiling may be 3 to 6 feet from the actual roof breach.
- Visible cracks on tile edges near the eaves. Concrete and clay tile handle heat well but crack from impact, especially from falling eucalyptus branches or pressure washing gone wrong. Once water reaches the underlayment below the crack, it travels laterally under adjacent tiles, which is why one cracked tile can cause a leak that looks much larger than the damage.
- Flashing pulling away from chimneys and vents. The metal flashing where the roof meets any vertical surface is sealed with caulk that loses elasticity in three to five Orange County summers. Once that seal pulls away even a quarter inch, water follows gravity straight down the wall cavity.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For Orange County homeowners, roof repair on an American Standard-compatible system runs $400 – $1,800. A single cracked tile replacement or a small flashing reseal sits near the bottom of that range. Replacing a section of ruined underlayment, re-bedding ridge tiles, or repairing a valley pushes toward the top.
Full replacement runs $8,000 – $20,000. What drives the spread: roof square footage (most Orange County single-story homes run 1,600 – 2,800 square feet under roof), whether it’s a single story or two-story (labor climbs with height and pitch), whether the old tile can be removed and reinstalled or if you’re switching materials entirely, and whether we find rot in the plywood decking once the old roof comes off. Every estimate we write includes the cost of new underlayment, drip edge, flashing, ridge caps, and disposal of the old material, so the number on day one is the number on the invoice. If we open the roof and find decking rot, we show you a photo of the damaged section before touching the repair, and the change order is written and signed before we add a dollar.
DIY or Call Us?
Roofing is one of the few areas where we tell homeowners to stay off the ladder, and here’s why: the majority of roof injuries we hear about in Orange County happen during the inspection, not the repair. On a two-story tile roof, a fall means a hospital trip. Even walking on tile without knowing which areas hold weight will crack more tile than you started with.
What you can do safely from the ground: photograph any visible damage from multiple angles, note which slope faces which direction, and check your gutters for granules or tile fragments. Then call us at (424) 541-1701 and we’ll inspect it properly with the right safety gear and the right part on the truck. Give you the number first, then pick up the tool.
FAQs

Concrete tile lasts 50+ years, clay tile can exceed 75 years, and architectural asphalt shingles typically last 18 – 25 years in Orange County’s UV-heavy climate. The underlayment beneath tile fails faster than the tile itself, usually between 20 and 30 years, so a tile roof that’s 25 years old may need underlayment replacement even if the tile is still sound. Call (424) 541-1701 for an assessment of what’s actually failing.
Yes, most roof problems are repairable if caught early. A cracked tile, a lifted shingle edge, or deteriorating flashing seal can be fixed for under $1,000 in Orange County. Replacement becomes necessary when underlayment has widespread rot, multiple slopes show granule loss to bare fiberglass, or tile is cracking across more than 15% of the roof surface.
A tile repair or flashing reseal takes a few hours once we’re on site. A full replacement typically takes three to seven working days depending on roof size, pitch, and whether we find decking damage. We give you the schedule in writing before work starts, and we show up in the window we gave.
We stock common profiles including the AS-T16 tile, the AS-T14 aftermarket match, architectural shingle colors common in Orange County developments, and standard flashing materials. If your profile is less common, we can have the part sourced within a few days and install it the same week. Along with American Standard, we also work with KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone product lines, and we treat every roof the same regardless of brand: right part, honest price in writing, and a 365-Day Done Right Promise on every repair.
If your American Standard roof is showing any of the signs above, call (424) 541-1701 for a free estimate. A real person answers, we come out and look, and the price you get in writing is the price you’ll pay.
