Mr-Glass Fence Installation: The Orange County Owner’s Guide
If you own a Mr-Glass fence system anywhere in Orange County and a panel has cracked, a post has shifted, or a gate hinge has torn loose, you need a straight answer on what it costs to fix and who can actually do the work. We stock Mr-Glass-compatible fence components and complete installations across Orange County, with most full fence installs running $3,500 to $9,000 depending on linear footage, post condition, and whether we’re replacing a section or the whole run. The most common discovery path starts with a hairline crack that shows up after a Santa Ana wind event, then widens over the next few months until the panel starts rattling in its channel.
Trevor Nash has been installing and repairing glass fence systems throughout Orange County for years, including work in Irvine’s older residential neighborhoods near the Spectrum where 1980s and 90s builds are constantly getting updated. We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with Mr-Glass, which means we can be blunt about what’s worth repairing and what’s worth replacing. Here’s what you need to know before you spend a dollar.
Which Mr-Glass Models This Applies To

Mr-Glass manufactures several fence product lines, and the part compatibility is not universal across them. The three most common systems we see in Orange County are the Mr-Glass Standard Post series (round aluminum posts with a compression clamp), the Mr-Glass Frameless series (glass panels held by low-profile channels at the base), and the Mr-Glass Architectural series (heavier 12mm to 15mm tempered glass with stainless steel standoffs). A clamp kit from the Standard Post series will not seat correctly in the Frameless channel, and standoffs from the Architectural line are spaced differently than anything else in the catalog.
To identify your part, look for the Mr-Glass sticker on the bottom corner of the panel or the inside face of the post cap. The sticker includes a series code that starts with MG-S, MG-F, or MG-A. If the sticker is gone – common after a few years of OC sun – measure the glass thickness with a caliper. Standard Post glass runs 8mm to 10mm, Frameless runs 10mm, and Architectural runs 12mm or 15mm. The post diameter matters too: Standard posts are 2-inch round, Frameless base channels are 2.5-inch wide, and Architectural posts are 3-inch stainless. If you can get us these measurements, we can tell you over the phone whether we have the part on the truck.
On the OEM versus aftermarket question: Mr-Glass OEM parts are well made, but the supply for certain discontinued series – especially the pre-2016 Standard Post clamps – has grown spotty in Southern California. We keep a stock of both OEM components and aftermarket equivalents from a fabricator in Anaheim that matches the original specs exactly. For most homeowners, the aftermarket equivalent costs about 20 to 30 percent less and carries the same structural guarantee from us. The one exception is glass panels themselves: for safety glass, we only install OEM or a fabricator-certified equivalent, never a generic tempered panel.

Signs Your Mr-Glass Fence Installation Is Failing
Glass fences fail slowly most of the time, then all at once. Here’s what Orange County homeowners notice before the repair call:
- Hairline cracks radiating from the clamp point. This is the #1 failure we see. Aluminum expands and contracts with OC temperature swings between coastal fog mornings and 90-degree inland afternoons. Over time, the clamp pressure at the contact point creates a stress riser, and the crack starts there. Tightening the clamp makes it worse.
- A panel that rattles or buzzes in the wind. The rubber gasket inside the clamp or channel has hardened and shrunk from UV exposure. In Irvine and Mission Viejo, where afternoon winds funnel through canyon gaps, a loose gasket means the panel flexes hundreds of times a day. That flex is what eventually cracks the corner.
- A post that leans more than a few degrees off plumb. Orange County has its share of expansive clay soils – parts of Anaheim Hills and Yorba Linda are notorious for it. When the soil expands after winter rain, it pushes against the post footing. A leaning post puts uneven pressure on the glass and will chew through gaskets in a single season.
- White haze or clouding around the edges of the glass. This is lamination breakdown, most common on older panels in full sun exposure without shade. Once the laminate starts separating, the panel loses structural strength and becomes a safety problem, not just a cosmetic one.
- A gate that scrapes the bottom track or won’t close square. The hinge block on Mr-Glass gates is the weakest link in the system. The stainless hinge pin wears against the softer aluminum hinge block, and the gate sags. You’ll see a worn arc in the track or an uneven gap at the top.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In Orange County, a full Mr-Glass fence installation typically runs $3,500 to $9,000. Where you land in that range depends on three things: linear footage, whether the existing posts can be reused, and site access. A 30-linear-foot patio screen with good posts might come in near the bottom of the range. A 75-linear-foot pool enclosure with rotted post footings, tight side-yard access, and a gate to hang will push toward the top.
What you get for that number: we remove and haul away the old panels and hardware, reset or replace the posts, install the new glass with fresh gaskets and clamps, and hang and adjust the gate. Every quote is a written line-item number before any work starts – not a ballpark, not a verbal estimate, a written price you can hold us to. If something fails inside 365 days, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s the Done Right Promise, in writing on every job.
Panel-only replacement on an existing good post setup runs lower – typically $300 to $600 per panel installed, depending on size and glass thickness. If your posts are solid and only one or two panels are cracked, we will tell you that. We’re not going to sell you a full fence when two panels will do.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely do a few things yourself: photograph the sticker or measure the glass, clear brush away from the post bases, and check each post with a 4-foot level. Write down which way each post leans and by how much. That information makes the estimate call faster.
What you should not DIY is the glass removal. Tempered glass panels weigh 40 to 80 pounds each, and a cracked panel that shatters during removal sends thousands of small, sharp fragments across your yard. The tension in a compression-clamped system is enough to shatter a weakened panel if released wrong. We use vacuum cups and controlled-release clamps to pull panels safely. If you have a panel that’s already cracked through, leave it alone and call us – the next big wind gust may finish the job in a way you don’t want to be standing next to. Give you the number first, then pick up the tool. Call (424) 541-1701 and we’ll walk through your measurements and get you a written quote.
FAQs

A properly installed Mr-Glass fence with fresh gaskets and sound posts will last 15 to 25 years in Orange County’s climate, with the gaskets typically needing replacement every 8 to 12 years. Coastal properties in Newport Beach and Dana Point wear faster from salt air, while inland properties battle more UV breakdown and soil movement. Call (424) 541-1701 and we’ll give you an honest assessment of your specific site.
No. Tempered glass cannot be repaired once it has cracked – the panel must be replaced. Any contractor who tells you they can sand out or epoxy a crack in tempered glass is not being straight with you. The good news is that a single panel replacement is often under $600 installed. Call (424) 541-1701 for an exact quote.
A full fence installation typically takes 2 to 4 working days depending on the size and whether post footings need to be reset. Single-panel replacements are usually done in half a day. We’ll give you a defined arrival window in writing before we start, and a live person answers the phone 24/7 if you need to reach us during the project.
We stock gaskets, clamps, hinge blocks, and post caps for the most common Mr-Glass series in our Orange County service area. Specialty panels and standoffs may take 3 to 5 business days to source. We also stock a range of other brand-specific components, including KraftMaid cabinetry parts, Cambria countertop hardware, and Silestone sink fixtures, so we’re familiar with the sourcing channels. Call (424) 541-1701 with your series code and we’ll tell you on the spot what’s in stock.
