Bufftech Fence Installation: The Orange County Owner’s Guide
Bufftech fence installation in Orange County typically runs $3,500 to $9,000 for a full replacement project, with most partial repairs coming in well under that. We stock Bufftech-compatible posts, rails, and pickets on our trucks, so a straight swap is usually same-week, not same-month. Most homeowners call us after a sprinkler head has been hitting the same post for a decade, or a Santa Ana wind event snapped a rail that was already sun-brittled. You know the part that failed because you’re looking at it right now: leaning post, cracked picket, or a rail that pulled free of its bracket.
Which Bufftech Models This Applies To
Bufftech makes vinyl fencing under several product lines, and the part you need depends on which one was originally installed. The most common in Orange County are the CertaGrain series, which carries a wood-grain texture, and the Brookhaven and Chesterfield privacy styles. Each uses a slightly different picket profile and rail spacing, so a Chesterfield picket will not seat cleanly into a CertaGrain bottom rail. The fastest way to identify your series is to check the inside of a removed picket or the top of a post for a molded stamp, or measure the picket width: CertaGrain pickets run roughly 6 inches wide, while some Brookhaven styles are 7-1/2 inches. When a stamp is faded or gone, we match by measuring the wall thickness and the picket profile with a sample in hand before pricing anything. On OEM versus aftermarket, Bufftech’s proprietary color formulas, especially Tan and Clay, are difficult for off-brand parts to match after a few years of Orange County sun. We default to genuine Bufftech parts for visible pickets and rails, and we’ll offer a quality aftermarket option for hidden components like internal post stiffeners when it does not affect the look or the warranty. Penhallow Remodeling Orange County is an independent contractor and is not affiliated with Bufftech, but we have installed and repaired their product lines throughout the county for years.

Signs Your Bufftech Fence Installation Is Failing
- Post lean at the base. In Orange County, the usual cause is a concrete footing that was poured too shallow against a slope, or years of irrigation water softening the soil around it. The post itself rarely fails; the footing does.
- Pickets cracking at the bottom rail. Vinyl expands and contracts with heat, and a picket that was installed too tight against the rail has nowhere to go. We see this most often on west-facing fence lines in Irvine and Lake Forest where afternoon sun is relentless.
- Rail pulled free from the bracket. High wind, especially during Santa Ana season, flexes the top rail against its bracket screws. Once a screw strips, the rail starts working loose and the whole section gets sloppy.
- Chalky, faded surface with fine cracks. This is UV degradation. It is cosmetic at first, but once fine surface cracks appear, the vinyl has lost its flexural strength and will snap rather than bend on impact.
- Gate sag or drag. The gate post was never set deep enough or the hinges were installed with screws too short for the post wall. The Bufftech gate itself is usually fine; the post and hardware setup are the problem.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For Orange County, a full Bufftech fence installation typically runs $3,500 to $9,000 depending on linear footage, post depth, and whether we are removing an old fence in the same job. A single post reset with a new footing usually lands between $350 and $700. Replacing a 6-foot section of pickets and top rail runs roughly $200 to $450. What drives cost is mostly the footing work: Orange County has a mix of clay and sandy loam, and clay soil wants deeper, wider footings to hold a post square through wet winters. Every quote includes the cost of parts, labor, and haul-away of the old material in one written number. The 365-Day Done Right Promise applies to the installation work: if a post shifts or a rail pulls free within the first year, we return and fix it at no charge.

DIY or Call Us?
A homeowner can handle a few things safely: checking that sprinkler heads are not spraying the fence line, tightening a hinge screw that has backed out, and marking where a post has started to lean so you know if it is getting worse. Going further gets tricky. Digging out a concrete footing to reset a post without disturbing the panel is slow, heavy work, and getting the new post perfectly plumb while the concrete cures is where most DIY fixes go sideways. Cutting vinyl pickets to width also requires a fine-tooth blade and patience; a rough cut leaves a ragged edge that catches dirt and fails early. If the part you are pricing is a post or a bottom rail, call us at (424) 541-1701 and we will give you a written number before any work starts.
FAQs

A properly installed Bufftech fence in Orange County typically lasts 20 to 30 years, with the posts and footings being the first things to need attention, usually around the 10 to 15 year mark. The vinyl itself holds up well to sun, but our dry-wet soil cycles work footings loose over time. Call (424) 541-1701 if you are seeing a lean; early post work is cheaper than full-section replacement.
A hairline surface crack can sometimes be stabilized with a vinyl-compatible adhesive, but a full-thickness crack means the picket has lost its structural integrity and should be replaced. Patching buys months, not years. For an exact look at your section, call (424) 541-1701 and we will tell you plainly whether repair makes sense.
Most single-part replacements, like a picket run or one rail, are done in one to two hours on site, assuming we have the correct Bufftech series on the truck. Post resets take longer because the concrete footing needs to cure before the post can carry load. Give us the series name or a photo when you call so we bring the right part the first time.
We stock common Bufftech-compatible pickets, rails, brackets, and post caps on our trucks, and we order series-specific parts direct for less common profiles. We can source and install the part for you; you do not need to track anything down. Call (424) 541-1701 with your fence’s series name or a photo of the failed part, and we will price it from there.
