Techo-Bloc Driveway & Pavers: The Orange County Owner’s Guide

Techo-Bloc driveway and paver systems run $7,000 – $18,000 installed in Orange County, depending on square footage, base prep, and the specific Techo-Bloc line you’re working with. We stock compatible replacement pavers for most current Techo-Bloc series and can typically match your existing color and finish within a few days. Most Orange County homeowners discover they need replacement pavers after a tree root shifts a section, a car tire sinks a low spot, or a paver cracks along an edge and water starts pooling underneath.

What tends to surprise people is that the paver itself rarely fails on its own. Techo-Bloc manufactures a dense, high-PSI concrete paver that holds up well in our climate. What fails is what’s underneath: the base. Orange County’s clay-heavy soil in areas like Orange, Villa Park, and parts of Fullerton expands and contracts with moisture, and if the original installer skimped on the compacted aggregate base, you’ll see settlement within three to five years. That’s the repair we do most often on Techo-Bloc driveways here. This page covers what we stock, what a repair costs, and when it’s smarter to call us rather than fight it yourself.

Which Techo-Bloc Models This Applies To

A dining nook with a built-in banquette

Techo-Bloc runs several paver lines, and identifying which one you have matters because sizing isn’t universal across series. The most common lines we see in Orange County driveways are Blu 60, Blu 80, Estate, and Victorien. Blu 60 pavers are 60mm thick and often used on residential driveways; Blu 80 runs 80mm thick and is rated for heavier vehicle loads. Estate and Victorien are larger-format slabs with their own edge dimensions. A paver from one line won’t interlock correctly with another, even if the color looks close.

If you’re trying to identify what you have, look for the faint product stamp on the underside of a loose paver or check your original install paperwork. No stamp? Measure the thickness with a tape measure; 60mm versus 80mm is the fastest tell. Techo-Bloc also runs color lot codes, which matters more than people think: a “Shale Grey” paver from a 2023 batch won’t match a 2019 batch exactly. UV exposure shifts color over time regardless of brand. When we do a repair, we bring several lot samples and match against the existing field, not just the name on the ticket. That’s the difference between a patch job and something you’d never notice.

On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: Techo-Bloc’s warranty covers manufacturing defects, but for a repair years after install, the practical choice is usually sourcing current-production Techo-Bloc in the matching series and color. Aftermarket generics rarely match the edge profile well enough for a seamless field repair. We’re an independent contractor, not a Techo-Bloc dealer or affiliate, so we’re free to tell you straight: for replacement pavers, match the brand if you can. For base and jointing material, quality alternatives like Techniseal or Gator polymeric sand work just as well. Penhallow Remodeling Orange County also stocks parts and finish materials for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone projects, but Techo-Bloc driveway work is its own skill set and we treat it that way.

Signs Your Techo-Bloc Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

  • Low spots or birdbaths that hold water after rain. This is base settlement, not a paver problem. The paver follows the ground; if the ground dipped, the paver dipped with it. Water pooling is your early warning that the sub-base was under-compacted or is washing out.
  • Pavers rocking or wobbling when you step on them. A stable paver sits tight against its neighbors. Movement means the bedding sand has been compromised or ants have tunneled through it, which happens more around garden borders and planter edges in Orange County.
  • Cracks running through individual pavers. A single cracked paver near an edge usually means a point load: a garbage bin dropped, a car jumping a curb line, or a root pushing up underneath. Replace that paver; don’t ignore it, because the crack becomes a water entry point.
  • Joint sand disappearing and weeds sprouting between pavers. Polymeric sand hardens when activated. If it’s washing out, water is moving through the joints more aggressively than it should, usually because drainage pitch got lost during settlement.
  • Edging that’s pulled away or spreading along the driveway border. The plastic or aluminum restraint along the perimeter is what holds the whole field in tension. If that edge fails, pavers start drifting outward and the interlock loosens across the surface.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A home office with a built-in desk and shelves

In Orange County, a full Techo-Bloc driveway replacement runs $7,000 – $18,000 installed. A smaller repair, like replacing two or three cracked pavers, can run $250 – $700 depending on access and color matching. The big number moves with square footage, base depth required, whether we’re removing and hauling old material, and which Techo-Bloc series you’re matching. A Blu 60 driveway in a tract home in Lake Forest costs differently than an 80mm Estate application on a hillside lot in Yorba Linda where we’re regrading for drainage.

Every quote includes the paver material, base excavation and compaction to spec, bedding sand, jointing compound, edge restraint, and the labor. You get a written price before work starts, so the number we hand you is the number on the invoice. The work is backed by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if a paver settles or a joint fails within a year of the repair, we come back and fix it at no charge. Free return visit, no re-inspection fee, and that’s in writing.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things yourself. Is the dip in one spot or across a wide area? Are base materials washing out near a downspout? Lifting one loose paver to look at the sand underneath is fine. What you shouldn’t do is start pulling a dozen pavers and regrading base by hand without a plate compactor. A hand-tamped repair on a driveway will sink again within months, and now you’ve spent a weekend and made the fix harder to do properly. Compacted base is the whole job. Without mechanical compaction, you’re just rearranging the problem.

If the repair is small and you’re confident in the diagnosis, replacing two or three pavers is manageable with a rubber mallet and the right color match. If you’re seeing whole sections settle or the edge has let go, call us at (424) 541-1701. We’ll come out, diagnose the base, and give you a written price for the repair before anyone picks up a tool.
