Oldcastle Fence Installation: The Orange County Owner’s Guide
Oldcastle fence installation in Orange County typically runs $3,500 – $9,000 depending on footage, panel style, gate hardware, and how much old post concrete needs to come out. We stock Oldcastle-compatible posts, panels, and gate kits on the truck, so most partial replacements happen same visit. The way most Orange County homeowners discover they need this is simple: a windstorm off the Santa Ana corridor snaps a post at the concrete line, or a gate sags enough to drag across the pavers and won’t latch like it used to.
Oldcastle makes a few distinct fence lines, and they are not all interchangeable. The two you are most likely dealing with in Orange County are the Westlake vinyl privacy line and the ProFence ornamental line. The vinyl panels have a tongue-and-groove form factor that only seats correctly in matching Westlake posts, and the ornamental panels are pre-punched for specific rail brackets, not universal hardware. If a previous contractor mixed brands, that is usually where the failure starts.
Which Oldcastle Models This Applies To

Oldcastle fence systems we routinely install and repair in Orange County include the Westlake privacy vinyl series, the ProFence aluminum ornamental series, and the less common EnviroFence recycled-content boards used on newer HOA builds in Irvine and south county. Before you order anything online, check two things. First, look for the manufacturer sticker on the inside of a post cap or on the back side of a top rail. Oldcastle stamps the series name and a date code there most of the time, and matching the series matters more than matching the color. Second, measure the post wall thickness with a caliper, not a tape measure. Westlake posts run 0.130 to 0.145 inches on the wall depending on manufacture year, and the wrong thickness means the panel will never seat square.
As for OEM versus aftermarket, this is where Orange County fence owners get burned. Generic vinyl panels from the big box stores are usually 0.085 inches thick. Genuine Oldcastle Westlake runs 0.110 inches on the panel face. That quarter-tenth of an inch sounds trivial until a Santa Ana gust hits a 6-foot section and the generic panel folds at the mid-rail. We stock OEM Oldcastle panels for the Westlake line, and for ProFence we carry both OEM and a heavier-gauge aftermarket rail bracket we have found holds a gate better than the factory original. We will tell you which one we would put on our own fence, and why, before we order anything.

Signs Your Oldcastle Fence Installation Is Failing
- Post lean at the concrete line without any visible concrete crack. The post wall has sheared inside the concrete pour, usually from a combination of wind load and a post footer that was only 18 inches deep instead of the 30 inches Orange County wind exposure really needs. You will see this most often on east-facing runs in Yorba Linda, Villa Park, and anywhere the Santa Anas hit straight on.
- Gates that drag or no longer latch. The hinge post has picked up a slight inward tilt, or the original builder hung a full-weight gate on a 4×4 post instead of a 5×5. Oldcastle’s own gate kits specify a 5×5 post for anything over 48 inches wide, and ignoring that spec is the single most common cause we walk up to on a service call.
- Panel corners popping out of the bottom rail. This is a thermal expansion issue made worse by Orange County’s hot afternoon sun on darker vinyl colors. The panel tongues have worn or the bottom rail has deformed slightly, and the corner will not stay seated even after you push it back in.
- White chalky residue on vinyl panels that will not wash off. That is the early stage of UV oxidation, and it is why we tell coastal Orange County customers in Huntington Beach and Newport Beach to expect 10 to 15 years from vinyl in full sun, not the 25 the warranty card suggests. Waxing the panel helps slow it, but it will not reverse it.
- Aluminum rails that feel spongy when you press on them mid-span. The rail has been over-spanned for the wind zone, or someone used a residential-grade rail on a run longer than 72 inches between posts. ProFence rails are specific about post spacing, and pushing that spec is a shortcut that shows up as a wave in the fence line.
One other thing we see often in Orange County: irrigation overspray rotting older EnviroFence boards from the bottom edge up. Water hitting a composite board twice a day for five years will do what the warranty does not plan for. We mention it because moving the sprinkler head is the difference between a fence that lasts 12 years and one that starts crumbling at year six.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Oldcastle fence installation in Orange County runs $3,500 to $9,000 installed for a typical 40 to 80 linear foot section. The three things that move the number the most: how much of the old fence you are replacing (full removal adds haul-away time), post footing depth and concrete removal (old footings are the quiet cost driver on every fence job), and gate hardware (a heavy double-drive gate with opener mounts is a different job than a single walk gate).
| Scope of Work | Typical Installed Cost (Orange County) |
|---|---|
| Replace 40 – 60 ft vinyl privacy run, new posts in existing holes | $3,500 – $5,500 |
| Replace 60 – 80 ft vinyl privacy run, new posts with new concrete footings | $5,500 – $8,000 |
| Full property fence with two gates and removal of old fence | $7,000 – $9,000+ |
| Single gate replacement (post, panel, hardware, hang) | $800 – $1,800 |
Every Oldcastle fence job we write in Orange County gets a written price before any work starts, and the price includes the panels, posts, hardware, concrete work, haul-away, and a 365-Day Done Right Promise on our installation. If a post shifts or a gate drops inside that year, we come back and fix it at no charge. The written number is the number you pay.
DIY or Call Us?
You can replace a single vinyl panel section yourself if the posts are still plumb and only the panel is damaged. That is a 45-minute job with a rubber mallet and some patience. What an Orange County homeowner should not DIY is digging out a sheared post footing in August caliche soil, hand-mixing 200 pounds of concrete in 90-degree heat, and trying to hold a 6-foot panel level while the post sets. The part itself is not dangerous like a garage spring, but the work is harder than it looks, and a fence that goes in 2 degrees out of plumb is a fence you will look at every day from your kitchen window.
If you can tell us Oldcastle series, post size, and approximate footage, we can usually price the job over the phone and bring the right material on the first trip. Call (424) 541-1701 and we will give you the number first, then pick up the tool. That is how Trevor Nash runs every job we take in Orange County.
FAQs

We tell Orange County customers to expect 10 to 15 years from vinyl in full, unshaded sun. Coastal properties in Huntington Beach and Newport Beach see oxidation sooner than inland cities because the salt air and UV work together. Aluminum ProFence runs substantially longer, often beyond 20 years, because the rail brackets and posts do not degrade the same way in our climate.
Call (424) 541-1701 if you want us to look at the run and give you a straight answer on what is left in it. Estimates are free.
Yes, often. A single cracked post, a dropped gate, or one panel with a popped corner can usually be repaired for a few hundred dollars rather than a few thousand. The only time we recommend full replacement is when you have three or more posts sheared at the footing line or the panels have oxidized to the point that new pieces will never match the old color.
Call (424) 541-1701 and we will tell you bluntly which side of that line your fence is on.
Most partial replacements, a 40 to 60 foot run with the old posts still in good condition, take our crew one day. A full property fence with footing removal, new concrete, and multiple gates usually runs two to three days, including haul-away.
We carry the most common Westlake panels, post caps, gate hinges, and ProFence rail brackets on the truck. If you have an unusual series or a custom height, we order it from our Oldcastle supplier and schedule the install once the parts land, usually within a few days in Orange County.
No. Penhallow Remodeling Orange County is an independent general contractor, not a factory installer or a brand affiliate. We work with Oldcastle fence systems because the material is consistent and the specs are predictable, which is what lets us stand behind our installation with a written guarantee. We also work with other recognized trade brands on the remodel side of our business, including KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone, for the same reason.
