Cover Windows & Doors: The Orange County Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Cover-compatible windows and doors across Orange County, with most replacements running between $450 and $1,800 per unit depending on size, material, and whether the frame needs work. Trevor Nash and our team handle the whole job from removal to trim, usually completing a single window or door swap in one visit. Most owners don’t notice a problem until a window sticks in July or a door won’t latch after a wet Santa Ana stretch, and by then the part’s been failing quietly for months.
If you’ve got a Cover window or door that’s dragging, leaking, or refusing to close clean, this page tells you what we stock, what it costs, and whether it’s worth repairing before you call.
Which Cover Models This Applies To

Cover’s product line in Southern California splits into two main families: their standard aluminum-frame sliders and their newer vinyl and fiberglass lines. The aluminum sliders show up constantly in Irvine condos and tract housing from the 1980s and early 90s, especially in University Park and Woodbridge. The vinyl lines are more common in newer builds in Lake Forest, Aliso Viejo, and Tustin Ranch.
The compatibility gotcha most owners miss is that Cover’s slider hardware changed around 2005. Pre-2005 units use a narrower roller housing with a different wheel diameter than current production, and the rollers are not backward-compatible. If your sticker’s gone, pull the sash out and measure the roller assembly’s width: 7/8-inch means pre-2005, 1-inch means current production. Photos help too. Send us a picture and we’ll identify it before we roll a truck.
On OEM versus aftermarket: Cover-sourced rollers and latches are fine but priced at a premium, and their lead times run three to six weeks. We keep quality aftermarket equivalents for the common Cover models on our shelves, which is why we can usually do the job the same week. The aftermarket hardware we use carries a similar duty rating and we stand behind it with our 365-Day Done Right Promise, same as everything else we install.

Signs Your Cover Windows & Doors Is Failing
- Window drags or catches when sliding. The roller wheels have flattened or the bearings are binding. In coastal Orange County, salt air corrodes the steel bearings faster than inland, so a Newport Beach or Huntington Beach unit will often fail three to five years before the same window in Anaheim or Orange.
- Door won’t latch or the handle spins loose. The latch strike plate has worn or the mortise mechanism inside the stile has stripped. This one’s common on older Cover patio sliders where the door has slammed against the jamb a few thousand times.
- Water seeping under the track during rain. The track’s weep holes are clogged with six years of Orange County dust and the seal is gone. It’s almost never the glass. It’s drainage.
- Window falls out of the track or droops on one side. The corner keys or roller clips have broken. This is the one owner call we get where the window is genuinely unstable, and we treat it like the safety issue it is.
- Condensation between the window panes. The sealed unit has failed, which means the gas fill is gone and the glass isn’t doing its job anymore. Replacement means a new insulated glass unit, not just a hardware fix.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For Cover windows and doors in Orange County, here’s what we quote as installed prices:
- Roller replacement (single window): $90 – $250 installed, depending on how many rollers and whether the sash needs rebalancing
- Latch and handle replacement: $120 – $380 installed, including the new hardware and fascia adjustment
- Full sliding door hardware rebuild: $350 – $750 installed, including rollers, latch, track cleaning, and realignment
- Full window replacement with new Cover-compatible unit: $700 – $1,800 installed, depending on size, glass package, and frame condition
The number on the quote is the number on the invoice. It covers parts, labor, disposal, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If the repair fails inside that year, we return and fix it at no charge, no re-inspection fee, no argument.
DIY or Call Us?
There’s an honest split here. You can safely clean a window track, clear the weep holes with a piece of wire, and tighten a loose handle plate with a screwdriver. That prevents a big share of the ‘slider won’t move’ calls we get, especially when the track just has a decade of grime in it.
What I’d tell you not to do is pull the sash out of a Cover slider yourself. Those sashes are heavier than they look, the spring-loaded roller clips can fire apart when released, and if a corner key snaps mid-removal, the window falls. That’s a finger-breaker and a glass-breaker in one move. If the rollers are gone or the sash is drooping, that’s our job. Call (424) 541-1701 and we’ll give you the number first, then pick up the tool.
FAQs

Count on 20 to 30 years total, but expect hardware work around year 12 to 15. Inland cities like Yorba Linda and Mission Viejo run longer on rollers because there’s less salt in the air. Coastal units in Corona del Mar and Laguna Beach age faster.
In most cases, yes. Rollers, latches, and corner keys are replaceable parts, and we keep them stocked for most Cover models from the last 20 years. The only time you need a whole new unit is when the glass seal has failed or the frame itself is bent.
Most hardware swaps take 45 minutes to two hours on site. A full window replacement can stretch to half a day if we’re reframing or trimming out a bad rough opening. We’ll give you a real arrival window before we show up, and we stick to it.
We stock common Cover rollers, latches, and corner keys on the truck. If we need to order a specific spring or an odd-size insulated glass unit, we’ll tell you the lead time before you pay us anything. No surprises, no ‘parts are backordered’ after the job started.
