Cover Driveway & Pavers: The Orange County Owner’s Guide
If you have a Cover driveway or paver system and a section has failed, cracked, settled, or separated, we can source the matching part and install it for you. For Orange County homes, expect to pay between $150 and $900 for a paver repair or section replacement, depending on how many pavers need to come up and whether the base layer underneath has shifted. Most paver swaps are done in a single visit, and we carry common Cover-compatible profiles on the truck. The way owners usually find us: a paver cracked under a delivery van, a corner of the driveway sank after winter rain, or a spalled (flaking) surface finally gave out after years of sun. We’re an independent contractor, not affiliated with Cover, but we match their profiles every week.
Key Takeaway: A failed paver or driveway section in Orange County is not a mystery to solve. It’s a part to match, a base to check, and a written price to approve before we touch anything.
Which Cover Models This Applies To
Cover driveway systems in Orange County typically fall into two families: their modular concrete paver line (the larger-format 24″x24″ and 16″x32″ units) and their smaller interlocking paving stones, which are essentially a private-label version of a standard 60mm or 80mm Holland or plank profile. The part you need depends on which family your driveway uses. Check the underside of an undamaged paver for a raised manufacturer code or a date stamp. If nothing is visible, measure it: Cover’s modular slabs are nearly always 2-3/8″ thick, while their interlocking stones are 60mm (about 2-3/8″) or 80mm (about 3-1/8″). The 80mm units are rated for vehicular traffic; the 60mm are not, and that distinction causes more failed driveways in Irvine, Mission Viejo, and Huntington Beach than any defect in the paver itself. When a homeowner tells us the previous contractor installed 60mm stones on a driveway, we already know why it failed. For replacements, we’ll source OEM Cover stock when it’s available and a quality aftermarket equivalent when it isn’t. Belgard and Unilock both make profile matches that sit flush with Cover’s dimensions. Most driveways we see in Orange County are 15 to 20 years old, which makes OEM sourcing spotty, so a good part of this job is knowing which aftermarket paver actually matches the fade pattern of the surrounding stone.

Signs Your Cover Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Hairline cracks running across a single paver. This is almost always thermal stress or freeze-thaw from moisture trapped in the paver. In Orange County it’s less about freezing and more about our wet-dry cycles. The cure is swapping the unit, but if three or four adjacent pavers show the same crack, the base is moving.
- Sunken or “dished” sections near the garage apron. The base layer (usually decomposed granite or road base) has eroded or compacted unevenly. We lift the pavers, re-grade and compact the base, and reset the same stones. This is the most common repair we do in Irvine’s older neighborhoods near the Spectrum, where 1980s and 90s builds have original base material that was never compacted to today’s standard.
- Spalling or flaking on the paver surface. This is the concrete shedding its top layer, usually from salt exposure or years of direct Southern California sun with an inferior sealer. The paver still works structurally but looks rough. We replace the worst spalled units and can reseal the surrounding area so the patch doesn’t stand out.
- Gaps opening between pavers, especially along the edges. Edge restraint has failed. The metal or plastic edging that holds the perimeter in place has rusted or pulled loose. Without restraint, the entire field migrates outward a few millimeters a year until you notice it against the curb or the lawn line.
- Water pooling in one depression after every rain. This tells us the paver is fine but the pitch is gone. A low spot means the base settled under repeated loading, and standing water will accelerate further spalling and cracking. We reset the section and restore the 1% to 2% slope every driveway needs in this climate.
Most of these start as a cosmetic concern and become a structural one. The earlier you catch a single cracked paver, the cheaper it is, because the base underneath hasn’t had time to erode yet.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a Cover paver or driveway repair in Orange County, our installed pricing typically runs:
- Single paver replacement: $150 – $350, including matching the stone and resetting it in new bedding sand.
- Small section repair (under 50 sq ft): $400 – $1,100, depending on whether we’re reusing your existing pavers or pulling replacements. Reusing saves money; we clean, re-grade, and compact the base either way.
- Larger paver driveway section or full driveway repair (50 – 250 sq ft): $1,200 – $4,500. This includes base excavation where needed, new bedding material, compaction, and re-setting. If we have to bring in new pavers, material cost drives the top of the range.
- Full paver driveway installation: $7,000 – $18,000. This is the range we quote for Orange County paver driveways from tear-out through final compaction.
The price you get from us is the written number before we start. It includes labor, the parts, base material, and haul-away of the old section. It does not change once we open up the base and find something unexpected, because we quote the base repair as part of the job when the symptoms say it’s needed. Trevor Nash has been looking at Orange County driveways long enough to know which repairs need base work before we even lift the first paver. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the repaired section: if it settles or cracks again inside a year, we come back and make it right at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely do two things before calling: photograph the damage from a few angles with a tape measure in the frame, and check whether the surrounding pavers still sit level with each other. That information lets us quote the repair over the phone with better accuracy. What you should not attempt is prying up a driveway paver with a screwdriver or crowbar to “have a look.” Driveway pavers are 80 pounds and up, the edges chip easily, and once the bedding sand is disturbed the paver will never seat the same way again. You’ll add $100 to the repair in chipped edges and uneven bedding. For driveway base issues, the repair requires a plate compactor, fresh road base, and a grading plan, and that’s a contractor’s job. If you’ve got a single cracked paver on a patio and you feel handy, you can glue a replacement in with proper paver adhesive, but on a driveway our honest advice is to call us. We’ll give you the number first, then pick up the tool. Call (424) 541-1701 and tell us what you’re seeing.
FAQs

Properly installed Cover driveway pavers on an 80mm vehicular base should last 25 to 35 years in our climate. Paver color may fade after 7 to 10 years of direct sun, but that’s cosmetic. If yours failed in under 15 years, the usual cause is the base or the edge restraint, not the paver itself. Call (424) 541-1701 and we’ll tell you honestly which one you’re dealing with.
In many cases, yes. Sunken sections, separated joints, and uneven edges can be repaired by lifting, re-grading, and resetting the existing pavers. Spalled or cracked units get swapped for matches. The only time we recommend full replacement is when the pavers themselves are breaking down structurally across most of the driveway. A repair quote is free, and you’ll know the written number before we start.
For most single-paver or small-section repairs, we complete the job in one visit, usually half a day. Larger driveway repairs take one to two days including base compaction and cure time. We’ll give you a defined arrival window before we show up. Call (424) 541-1701 to schedule.
We stock common Cover-compatible paver profiles in our most-used colors on the truck, including the 24″x24″ modular slabs and 80mm interlocking stones. For less common colors, we source from Cover directly or from aftermarket lines like Belgard and Unilock, and we’ll tell you upfront which route your repair takes. Estimates are free. Call (424) 541-1701.
