Ameristar Kitchen Remodeling: The Orange County Owner’s Guide

Ameristar kitchen remodeling in Orange County typically runs $14,000 – $45,000 fully installed, depending on the cabinet line, countertop material, and whether you’re moving plumbing or electrical. We stock install-ready cabinetry, hardware, and finishing components compatible with Ameristar kitchen systems, and our crews complete most full-kitchen remodels in 3 – 6 weeks. Most homeowners in Orange County find us after a drawer front cracks, a cabinet hinge pulls out of the face frame, or a laminate edge peels away from the substrate, and they’re trying to figure out whether to patch it or replace the cabinet run entirely.

Which Ameristar Models This Applies To

An open kitchen and dining area after a remodel

Ameristar kitchen lines are built around two cabinet construction styles: framed cabinets with solid wood face frames, and frameless (European-style) boxes with full-overlay doors. The difference matters when you’re replacing a single door or drawer because the hinge cup size, overlay measurement, and door thickness don’t interchange between the two. Look inside a cabinet door for a manufacturer label. If it’s missing, measure the cabinet opening width in inches and the overlay (how much the door overlaps the face frame or the box edge). Most Ameristar framed doors use a 1-1/4″ overlay with 35mm hinge cups; frameless lines use full-overlay hinges that sit flush to the box edge.

OEM Ameristar components are getting harder to source in Orange County. We match them with quality equivalents from industry brands, (we also stock KraftMaid, Cambria, Silestone lines), but there’s a compatibility gotcha with hinge boring patterns: older Ameristar doors often have a 3mm offset on the cup location. If you buy a generic 35mm-cup door and the boring isn’t offset to match, the door will hang proud or bind. We check that before we order anything.

Signs Your Ameristar Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

  • Cabinet doors that won’t stay closed – the hinges have lost spring tension or the mounting screws have stripped out of the particleboard box. Tightening them usually buys a month. Replacing the hinge plate or installing threaded inserts into the box fixes it properly.
  • Water-stained or swollen cabinet bottoms under the sink – a slow supply-line leak or a failed sink basket gasket has wicked moisture into the MDF or particleboard. Once the board swells, it will never dry flat. The cabinet base gets replaced (or rebuilt with plywood), and we fix the leak before the new box goes in.
  • Countertop seams separating or laminate peeling at the edge – heat from a toaster oven next to a seam, or years of water sitting against a mitred laminate edge, breaks the adhesive bond. Seam separation in quartz or solid surface can be re-cut and epoxied. Peeling laminate on an Ameristar postform top usually means the top is done.
  • Drawers that stick, rack, or drop out of the slides – the epoxy-coated slides on many Ameristar kitchens from the 1990s and early 2000s are under-rated for the drawer weight that gets loaded into them. Replacements with ball-bearing full-extension slides are a straightforward swap that changes how the whole kitchen feels.
  • A hinge screws into the same stripped hole in a face frame that has also split – the wood around the hinge has finally had enough. In Irvine’s older neighborhoods near the Spectrum where we regularly work on 1980s and 90s builds, we see this on at least one door per kitchen. The fix is a wood-epoxy fill, a re-drilled pilot, and a properly sized screw – not a longer screw angled into fresh air.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled kitchen with a waterfall island and wood cabinets

In Orange County, a kitchen remodel runs $14,000 – $45,000. Small kitchens with stock RTA cabinets, laminate or basic quartz countertops, and no plumbing moves run $9,000 – $20,000. Cabinet installation alone runs $4,000 – $13,000; countertops $2,000 – $6,500; backsplash $800 – $2,500; and a kitchen island $3,000 – $10,000. The big swing factors are cabinet line (stock vs. semi-custom), countertop material (laminate is $25 – $45 per square foot installed; Cambria or Silestone quartz runs $70 – $120), whether you’re relocating a sink or adding an island with electrical, and demo/disposal costs.

Every estimate we write includes the part, the labor, the fasteners, the adhesive, and the haul-away for the old material – in writing. If we find something behind the wall that changes the plan, we stop and put the new number in writing before we touch it. You’ll never get a change order filed as a surprise.

DIY or Call Us?

Adjusting cabinet doors, tightening hinges, and replacing a loose knobs are fair game. Anything that involves pulling a cabinet box out, re-cutting countertop seams, or removing plumbing fixtures is where I’d tell you to stop. Countertop work, in particular, goes wrong fast: a laminate edge applied without a router jig to cut the bond line cleanly separates within months. Quartz seams need a vacuum jig and epoxy color-matched to the slab, and a bad seam will collect crumbs and stain. For a part-specific answer on anything failing in your Ameristar kitchen, call (424) 541-1701. I’d rather spend ten minutes on the phone telling you it’s a $6 hinge than have you spend an afternoon and a cracked door learning it the hard way.
