Atlas Driveway & Pavers: The Orange County Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Atlas-compatible driveway pavers and paver components throughout Orange County, with most part replacements running $350 – $2,800 depending on the piece and how much substrate repair the paver bed needs. If your Atlas pavers are shifting, cracking, or sinking, that’s usually the signal something below the surface has failed, not the paver itself. Homeowners typically find us after a rainy season in Irvine or Santa Ana leaves a low spot where water pools against the garage slab, or after a tree root in Fullerton quietly pushes a section out of plane. Call (424) 541-1701 and Trevor will tell you the number before anyone picks up a tool.
Which Atlas Models This Applies To

Atlas manufactures a few distinct paver lines that show up all over Orange County driveways, and the right replacement depends on which series you have. The Atlas 60mm and 80mm Holland stone profile is the most common residential driveway paver we match in Anaheim and Huntington Beach, while the Atlas permeable paver series (the open-graded joints designed for stormwater infiltration) needs exact dimensional match or the seams read visibly wrong from the curb. The 2020 and later Atlas “Plateau” line uses a slightly narrower joint tolerance than the older Classic series, so even a 1/4-inch dimensional drift will telegraph across the whole field.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha most owners discover the hard way: Atlas pavers are calibrated at the plant, and the old Classic Series stock won’t interlock cleanly with the newer Series 2 profile introduced around 2019. You can’t mix them. We verify the paver thickness and mold code (stamped on the underside of a removed paver) before we order anything. Penhallow Remodeling Orange County is an independent service provider, not affiliated with Atlas, but we know their stock well enough to match what’s actually in your driveway, not what the big box store happens to carry on a pallet. We also stock parts for the hardscape-adjacent brands we work with, including KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone, though those come into play on outdoor kitchens and counters more than the paver field.

Signs Your Atlas Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Wobbling or rocking pavers underfoot. This means the sand setting bed has migrated or washed out underneath. Orange County’s winter rains push fine sand through the joints faster than most owners expect, and a paver with no support under it will crack under vehicle load within a season or two.
- Localized settlement or a visible dip near the apron. This usually traces back to the base course compacting unevenly, often because the original install skipped a proper compacted aggregate base. It’s common in older Irvine neighborhoods where driveways were poured in the 1980s and 90s and then capped with pavers on top of failing concrete.
- Joint sand gone, with weeds or moss filling the gaps. When the polymer sand washes out, the pavers lose lateral lock. Weeds follow, and every weed root widens the joint. Untreated, the field starts to spread at the edges.
- Fractured edges along the driveway border or soldier course. Edge restraint failure lets the border stones take tire loads they were never meant to carry. A broken border is the first visible sign the whole field is moving outward.
- Water pooling against the garage slab after rain. This is less about the paver surface and more about grade, but on Atlas driveways in older Anaheim and Garden Grove lots, it’s often the first thing a homeowner notices before they see the settlement underneath it.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a typical Orange County driveway, replacing a failed section of Atlas pavers runs $350 – $2,800, and a full driveway tear-out and reinstall runs $7,000 – $18,000 depending on square footage, paver thickness, and whether we need to rebuild the aggregate base. The biggest cost driver is usually what’s under the pavers: if the original contractor skimped on base material, the fix isn’t swapping stones, it’s excavating and compacting properly. A band-aid patch over a bad base will look fine for six months and fail again after the next winter.
Every job starts with a written price before work begins. That’s not an estimate range; it’s the number. The labor includes removing the affected section, inspecting and correcting the base, resetting or replacing the pavers, and re-sweeping polymer sand into the joints. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the repair in writing: if anything fails inside the year, we come back and make it right at no charge. That includes a free second visit, no service call fee, no re-inspection charge. Background-checked, uniformed technicians do the work, and a live person answers the phone 24/7 if you need us after the crew leaves.
DIY or Call Us?
There are two things an Orange County homeowner can safely check before calling us. First, sweep dry sand into a low spot and watch how it moves after the next rain. Second, mark any rocking pavers with chalk and photograph them, so you know whether the movement is spreading. That’s information we can use to price the repair over the phone.
What you shouldn’t do is lift pavers and add sand yourself. The problem almost always lives deeper than the setting bed, and a paver field that’s been hand-touched without fixing the base will fail again, and worse, because the joints won’t be tight. If the settlement is near a gas meter or water line, there’s a risk of damaging buried utilities. Call (424) 541-1701 and we’ll tell you what we think before we schedule anything. Trevor learned the trade at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College and has been fixing Orange County driveways long enough to know that the right diagnosis saves you money, even when it means more digging than you wanted.
FAQs

Atlas concrete pavers typically last 25 – 40 years in Orange County’s climate if the base was compacted correctly at install, and the paver itself is rarely the part that fails. What fails first is the setting bed or the edge restraint, which is why a repair that leaves the old base in place usually doesn’t hold. Call (424) 541-1701 and we’ll tell you whether your base is worth saving before you spend a dime on pavers.
A cracked Atlas paver can be swapped individually, and we stock the three most common profiles on the truck so we can match the color and thickness on the spot. The caveat is that a crack usually means the paver lost support underneath, so a straight swap without fixing the bed is cosmetic only. Our written estimate will tell you which one you’re actually dealing with.
A typical section replacement of 20 – 40 square feet takes one day, including base inspection, paver replacement, and joint sand. A full driveway rebuild runs three to five days depending on excavation depth and access in your Orange County neighborhood. We’ll give you a defined arrival window in writing, and the number you get up front is the number on the invoice.
We stock the three most common Atlas paver profiles and colors on the truck, and we can special-order unusual series or color blends from local Orange County supply yards within a week. Give us a call at (424) 541-1701 with a photo of the damaged section and we’ll tell you whether we can drive over today or need to order. Estimates are free, and the price is always in writing before work starts.
