ES Windows Driveway & Pavers: The Orange County Owner’s Guide
We stock and install driveway and paver systems that work alongside ES Windows exterior door setups across Orange County, with most paver driveway projects running $7,000 – $18,000 installed and concrete driveways at $4,500 – $12,000. You usually know the driveway or paver area has failed when you see settlement dips near the ES Windows threshold, cracked pavers pulling away from the door frame, or drainage water pooling against the foundation instead of running off. If your pavers have shifted and now catch the bottom sweep of your ES Windows entry door, the fix is rarely just one paver: the base underneath has usually washed out or compacted unevenly.
We’re an independent Orange County remodeling contractor, not affiliated with ES Windows. But we work around their door and window systems constantly, and we know exactly what a shifting driveway does to their thresholds, sweeps, and frame alignment.
Which ES Windows Models This Applies To

The compatibility issue here isn’t the window series, it’s the relationship between the ES Windows unit’s exterior threshold and the hardscape meeting it. Whether you have their hinged patio doors, multi-slide panels, or fixed picture windows above a driveway-side wall, the concrete or paver surface outside has to slope away from the opening. We see the most problems on homes where the driveway was poured years before ES Windows frames were installed, and the original slab elevation now conflicts with the new door’s bottom track.
For identification, look at the sticker on the inside edge of your ES Windows frame. It will list a series code and manufacturing date, which tells us the threshold height and profile. That matters: an older ES Windows unit with a low-profile threshold hides water intrusion for months because the gap between door sweep and driveway is barely visible. The OEM versus aftermarket question rarely applies to the driveway itself, but it applies to any jamb extensions, threshold ramps, or ADA-style transitions we install between the ES Windows frame and the new pavers. We use the frame’s exact dimensions rather than guessing at a universal part.

Signs Your ES Windows Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Paver settlement at the threshold. The base material under the pavers has eroded, usually from gutter downspouts emptying too close to the door. The pavers drop a half inch and now scrape the bottom of the ES Windows door each time it opens.
- Water pooling against the door frame. Over years, the driveway loses its 1/8-inch-per-foot slope and starts holding water within six inches of the frame. On stucco-sided homes near Irvine’s older neighborhoods, this shows up as efflorescence or bubbling paint before you ever see a leak inside.
- Cracks spidering outward from the corner of the slab. This is usually tree roots from mature ficus or liquidambar trees common across Orange County. The root lifts one corner and the ES Windows frame above it torques enough to bind the door lock.
- Grout or sand washing out between pavers. That’s not cosmetic. The paver base is leaving the system every time it rains or when the sprinkler oversprays. Within a season, individual pavers rock underfoot.
- Visible gap between the door sweep and the outside surface. If you can see daylight under the ES Windows door when it’s closed, the outside surface has dropped more than the threshold can handle. That’s not a weatherstrip problem, it’s a hardscape problem.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In Orange County, a full paver driveway replacement runs $7,000 – $18,000 depending on square footage, paver line (Belgard and Unilock are common here), and how much base material has to be dug out and replaced. Concrete driveway replacement runs $4,500 – $12,000, and sealing an existing driveway runs $250 – $700. If the failure is localized to the area right around the ES Windows door, a paver patio repair or partial re-set often falls in the $3,500 – $11,000 range depending on access and base depth.
Every job includes the written price before any work starts, and that number is the number on the invoice. We pull permits when the city requires them, and our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the install in writing. If the pavers settle again inside a year, we come back and fix them at no charge, with no service call fee. That’s the whole point of giving you a written number and a written guarantee before we touch the job.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check your own drainage: run a hose near the ES Windows threshold during dry weather and watch where the water goes. If it pools against the frame for more than ten minutes, you’ve found the problem. You can also pull weeds from paver joints and check for rocking pavers by stepping on each one.
What you shouldn’t do is start lifting pavers and adding sand to fix a low spot. That’s a temporary bandage that fails in the first rain, because the underlying base has already compacted wrong or washed out. Same with adding concrete patch at the door threshold: it creates a lip that damages the door sweep and voids the ES Windows frame’s ability to drain. If the pavers have moved enough to catch the door, the repair means excavation, new base, and proper compaction. That’s the point at which it costs less to call us than to fix it twice. Call (424) 541-1701 and we’ll give you the number first, then pick up the tool.
FAQs

A properly installed paver driveway in Orange County lasts 25 to 40 years, but the base under it should survive even longer. The pavers themselves rarely fail; the base material fails first, usually inside 10 to 15 years if drainage was bad or the soil under it was soft clay. Call (424) 541-1701 and we’ll tell you whether your issue is paver-level or base-level.
Often yes, especially when the settlement is confined to the ten feet around the ES Windows door. We lift the affected pavers, re-compact the base, correct the slope, and re-set the same pavers if they’re still intact. The honest answer depends on what the base looks like once we uncover it, and we’ll show you photos before we do anything. Call (424) 541-1701 for a free in-person assessment.
A localized repair around the door takes one to two days including base compaction and joint sand. A full driveway replacement typically takes three to five days. You’ll have a defined arrival window before we start, and we leave the site cleaner than we found it. Ask us about scheduling when you call (424) 541-1701.
We supply and haul everything: pavers, base rock, sand, edge restraints, and any Bellegard or Unilock product you select. We don’t expect you to order materials and hope the count is right. The written price covers materials and labor, and if we’re short, that’s our problem, not yours.
